ABOUT

Growing up in the Bavarian countryside, Julian Heuschneider, filmmaker and artist, began exploring visual storytelling at the age of 11, experimenting with visual effects, 3D modeling, videography, and photography. Over time, he experimented with a wide range of photography genres — including landscape, macro, product, street, studio, and portrait photography — while exploring the world of art through pencil sketches. From 2021 to 2025, he freelanced under his own company as an event and portrait photographer while also working as a video editor.

Julian eventually transitioned into fictional filmmaking, beginning with his four-minute solo short The Treasure Chest, in which he also starred. The comedy highlighted fast-paced editing and various visual effects. He followed this with the black-and-white horror short Lost in the Shadows, which premiered at the International Short Film Week Regensburg and captivated audiences with its haunting cinematography and abstract sound design.

In 2021, Heuschneider won a student screenwriting contest organized by Drehort Schule e.V. for his script The Veil Between. As part of the award, he received personal mentorship from professional screenwriter Florian Puchert, whose referral helped Julian secure a Bavarian government grant to produce the short film. Working closely with his cast and crew, he crafted a dramatic and terrifying portrait of a young widow grappling with grief. Julian wrote, produced, and directed the film, while also serving as editor and visual effects artist.

Returning to his childhood home, Julian Heuschneider wrote and directed Typing Yellow Dreams, a portrait of a young screenwriter struggling with writer’s block and breaking into the industry. He returned to acting and cinematography for the project, and thanks to another government grant, he was able to collaborate with skilled professionals.

Looking ahead, Heuschneider is submitting his latest films to festivals and developing new projects, including a 2D animated short featuring his own hand-drawn visual designs and a sci-fi horror feature film.
